Search Volume

The Volume column on the table communicates how many searches per month there are for each term according to SEMRush.com. As you can see, the keyword “sleep apnea” is searched 368,000 times per month! It’s a broad topic based in medicine and is used on many websites by dentists like you, in addition to physicians, websites like WebMD, and research-based sites like the National Institutes of Health. Due to the popularity of the term and the various types of websites that target it, it may be hard for you to rank for “sleep apnea” specifically.

However, knowing that patients search for sleep apnea tells you that people are researching it and may need your sleep treatment services.

Google Trends Data Correlation

Google Trends validates the relationship of some of the top search volumes in the United States for the past 12 months.

Dentalese Gets Low Search Volume

Following that trend line, you can see where keyword search volumes are driven almost entirely by marketing and the dental community. Sure, some ideal, highly educated patients are still in those meager 1,000 searches per month, but stretched over the entire United States, we have to be realistic and acknowledge that even phrases like ‘snoring treatment’ and ‘dental emergency’ are coined by dentists. The average person is more likely to search ‘how to stop snoring’ or ‘dentist near me who is open right now.’

The top half of the list is dominated by problems, procedures, and brands that have been around for a long time and get a lot of their own marketing. You can use this information when building your dental marketing plan.

How to Use this Information

Knowing which dental services are searched for more than others, you can use this information in your marketing to gain more new patients.

Local SEO Services

You can extrapolate the high global demand to a higher likelihood that people near your office are performing related searches. Where demand is highest for services that you offer, make those services priority pages on your website. Create individual pages for each target service with substantial content and examples of how you have helped patients in the past. Showcase your training and reviews in these areas. Then use local SEO tactics to optimize the page, including local keywords where naturally relevant and linking to these pages from your Google Business Profile and other online listings. This way patients searching for these services will be more likely to find your listings and targeted pages. You can learn more about our local SEO services for dentists here.

Google Ads

Google ads are the fastest way to get more new patients! It’s a form of direct, pay-per-click marketing where you’ll only pay for the people who click on your ad. And you can target the ads to people who are most likely to need your services. All the people who see your ad but don’t click on it, that’s just extra exposure and branding for free. Looking at the above list, you know “dental implants” is searched 90,500 times per month. This could be a great service to focus on based on how many people are likely to need it.

Social Media

Social media marketing can feel daunting, especially when you don’t know what social media ideas dentists should use. Take a look at the list above and choose terms that patients are already searching for, then schedule a post series about that service. Maybe you offer Invisalign. Share Invisalign tips, before and afters, or testimonials from former Invisalign patients.

Blogging

Blogging is a great way to share in-depth processes about dental services. Maybe you offer in-office teeth whitening. Even if you’d rather place dental veneers, you know that teeth whitening is searched many times per month. Target the term “teeth whitening” in your copy but also write about veneers and how to prevent teeth stains. Even though you may not want to perform a ton of teeth whitening, the term can be an opportunity to introduce another, higher-dollar service.
